Highjinx Fun Fundraiser Karaoke and Anniversary Gala.
Friday, March 8th, 9pm.
HighJinx is having a fundraiser to get some cash together to help the vulnerable residents in our community. Highjinx uses their net profit to provide food, housing and other necessities of life to those that rarely ask. This time of year they fall short and as their clients numbers increase the funds just aren’t stretching far enough. Highjinx is also celebrating their two year anniversary !
Come down to Shanghai and celebrate with us all while helping thy neighbour! China Doll has graciously donated a night of Karaoke! There will be singing, dancing, a not-so-silent auction and plenty of hijinks for highJinx!
Helping is easy…get down and sing! Or watch and laugh.
NEW ARTWORK BY JAMES BRUMMEL
GENERAL ASSEMBLY: HEROES OF FREEDOM FOUNTAIN AND LOCAL 99%
Friday, March, 15th, 7pm – 11pm
A. James Brummel and the historic Shanghai Restaurant invite you to the vernissage of “General Assembly” and occuparty!
The exhibition features portraits of the Occupy movement in Ottawa, painted in oil on canvas. Eight major contributing members of the Ottawa General Assembly are given due attention (and credit). Four of whom were among the last to peacefully resist eviction from Confederation Park, in November of 2011. The Ottawa Police Service employed over 200 officers and spared no expense in forcibly removing the Canadian citizens. One was seriously injured as a direct result and still suffers from chronic, debilitating pain. This will be an opportunity to celebrate, commiserate, reflect and consider the future. After the Arab Spring, OWS, the Quebec student movement and the rise of Idle No More; what now?
Brummel is an Ottawa artist, activist and founder of 613 Records. This will be his third solo showing of art at Shanghai, which also hosted several Occupied Ottawa events last year.
