After I was invited to show my art at the Shanghai Restaurant and got to know some of the owners of the restaurant, I had the pleasant surprise of discovering that it is not “just a restaurant”, but a mini-community center! Everyone who is someone in Ottawa area, and some from outside, is a friend of the Shanghai! Well known people from all walks of life came in one time or another. So, now it is time that my friends join the crowd and meet me at Shanghai for the vernissage of my China Girl show, on Thursday September 6th, at 7 pm. Great art, good treats and great company! Please come by!

Sneak a peek into what I’ve been working on for the past few months/years. Tonight at Shanghai. This interactive installation is called “illuminating our ancestors” it is an old discarded Chinese chandelier I repurposed. Fire, incense and smoke are often used to honour our ancestors in ceremony. In this piece, I hope to achieve a similar sense of ceremony using the chandelier light, sourced images of my family and technology to honour our ancestors. #myartprocess #artottawa #chinatownottawa #donkwanart #canadianart #illuminatingart @ Shanghai Restaurant

Location: Horticulture Building (1525 Princess Patricia Way, Ottawa, ON K1S 5J3)
The Gala is a fabulous event featuring a reception and an award ceremony. At the award ceremony, we will give Awards to leaders from across Canada who have gone above and beyond in the fight against bullying and discrimination.
This year’s event is proud to pay tribute to divers queer & trans folks featuring performances from a special curated group of local artists and performers.
The gala is a FREE EVENT. Our goal with the Gala is not to raise money, but to build community and celebrate the success of CCGSD over the past year. There will be hors d’oeuvres provided free of charge, and beverages will be available through a cash bar. We will also have a raffle and silent auction to help raise funds for the gala. Our VIPink guests will be provided free beverages throughout the night, priority seating during the award ceremony, and will have their name added to the VIPink exclusive raffle.
The CCGSD is always focused on our work in schools. As such, we are proud to announce that this event is a zero-budget event, with any profits made funneled directly into our programming across Canada.
We acknowledge that this event is being held on the traditional territories of the Algonquin peoples.
This event is fully accessible and bilingual.

Animal Parade Vernissage & Exhibition by Sabine Modder… then BINGO TIME with China Doll @ 8:30 pm
Bessie Blue sees spots, but you should see art! My art, in fact. Please come on down to the Shanghai Restaurant on Thursday, March 29 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. to see my animals on parade. I’ll be there, hanging out and eating noodles. Stick around, look at the paintings, chat, maybe have some Chinese food and a drink. Then roll up your sleeves and get ready to dab! From 8:30 p.m. there will be fun, games and glamour when the marvelous China Doll hosts an evening of bingo. It doesn’t get any better than this!
I will be donating my proceeds from the sales of the paintings in this show to St. Luke’s Table, a community service that provides meals and support to those in need. St. Luke’s Table is also located in Chinatown.
